Adrenal Dysfunction

Is this you?

  • You don’t have as much energy as you would like.

  • When you wake up in the morning, you want to hit the snooze button again and again.

  • You need one cup of coffee before you feel human.

  • Your brain always feels a little sluggish and you aren’t as productive or as focused as you want to be.

  • You feel anxious a lot and you don’t know how to relax anymore.

  • You get sick often and you’re starting to gain weight, especially in your middle.

  • You don’t want to feel this way anymore.

  • You want to feel vibrant, energetic, and strong.

Then you may suffer from adrenal dysfunction.

The adrenals are two glands that sit on top of your kidneys. There job is to make hormones that are involved in energy, blood sugar balance, metabolism, reproduction, mineral balance and the stress response.

That's right. We are talking about stress and cortisol.

When we experience chronic stress, our adrenal glands dump high amounts of cortisol into our bloodstream. That excess cortisol wreaks havoc on our body. Our blood sugar gets out of whack, we start craving sugar, we put on weight around our middle, we feel tense and anxious, our muscles ache, we feel wired and have trouble sleeping, our digestion gets out of whack, and we start getting sick all the time. Sound familiar?

If this continues to happen, our body will shut down the HPA axis, which signals our adrenal gland to make cortisol. This is our body's attempt to protect us.

But then our adrenal glands aren't making any cortisol and other adrenal hormones may begin to drop. And then we start feeling really tired. We struggle to get out of bed in the morning. We barely have enough energy to make it through the day. Everything exhausts us. Exercise. Thinking. Working. Going grocery shopping. Everything.

This is the progression of adrenal dysfunction. The good news is that no matter what your stage of adrenal dysfunction, we can help you heal using natural therapies.

Lab Testing

When it comes to adrenal dysfunction, it is important to do the right testing. This is so you can the right treatment. I have seen so many people use no testing or improper testing, leading to improper treatment. And they don't feel better. Or they feel worse.

Dried urine testing reveals how much total cortisol your adrenals are producing and how your body is metabolizing that cortisol. Saliva and blood tests evaluate free cortisol, which is only 1-3% of your adrenals total cortisol production. So I see people being diagnosed with low cortisol when they really have high cortisol that their body is metabolizing quickly.

At BioAdaptive Medicine, we thoroughly evaluate your adrenal gland to get a complete picture of your adrenal health. Then we strategically use nutrition, botanical medicine, nutrients, and lifestyle changes to reset your adrenals so you can reclaim your energy and your life!
